“Everything about Florence seems to be colored with a mild violet, like diluted wine.” —Henry James, 1869 • I was fortunate enough to spend a summer in Florence a few years ago, studying painting with the @florenceacademyofart . It was the first time I experienced a step by step process of building a painting, and was amazed at the results that could be achieved—paintings that looked like old master works—by following the same steps they used carefully. I was instantly hooked in this ultimate fantasyland of classical painting. That summer seems golden and beautiful, in part because of the overwhelming art that filled the city. This photo is from Florence, Italy, at the Villa Medicea de Lillian… I couldn’t find the photographer, but it is representative of the beautiful structures and paintings that are around every corner in the beautiful city. What is a city that has influenced your art?

Fields of Gold Detail, oil on panel, 11x14, by Jessica Libor 2019

Fields of Gold (detail) oil on panel, by Jessica Libor 2019

I am so excited to announce my solo exhibition hosted by the Da Vinci Art Alliance on September 4th, 2019.

See my new pieces in my solo exhibition “Nature’s Daughters,” on view for one night only at the Da Vinci Art Alliance on Wednesday, September 4th from 5-8pm. Celebrate women with my art and also with networking expert Jennifer Lynn Robinson. Men are also welcome to attend!  More details below:
“I want to show the glamour of nature. Whenever I am outdoors in the wild, I feel the most free. I don’t think I am alone in this experience. What I wanted to do was show this feeling visually. I want people to be swept away in a gorgeous fantasy of the absolute magic that nature weaves sometimes. I painted women because it felt like a natural expression of nature—like the earth, the feminine can have many sides to it, can bring forth new life, and often express their beauty by decorating themselves…something I am interested in drawing a correlation with.” -Jessica
Jessica Libor graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2014 and has been painting, curating and writing since. Find out more at http://www.jessicalibor.com.
At 7 PM, Jessica will say a few words about the artwork, and Jennifer Lynn Robinson, Esquire of Purposeful Networking will provide her 5 best tips for women to network more strategically. You will also be able to ask Jennifer your networking questions one on one. Find out more at https://www.purposefulnetworking.com/.

There will be light bites and drinks provided. This event is free for all and open to the public! Registration is encouraged by clicking here.

“All of life’s a stage, and we are merely players.” —Shakespeare. Decide who you want to be today, and be her. This helped me today while giving a talk to students at Rowan College about art, curating and structuring your life as a creative. It was my first time giving a full length lecture to students and I was a little nervous! What helped was actually thinking about the things I really wanted these students to know. I tried to put myself in their shoes as soon to graduate artists, and impart every useful tip I could about the artist life. Although I certainly don’t know it all and learn more every day, I’m hopeful what I did have to say was helpful to someone. One point in the talk was about loving your work. You really gotta love each piece. Put your heart and soul into it, and truly believe it’s something you’re proud of. When you do, other people will recognize the value you put on your own work and respond to it. A big thanks to Michelle Haberll who organized this talk and is a fabulous teacher and artist in her own right! Photo is from the mysterious interior of Philadelphia’s City Hall, dress from Free People.

Happy week of Valentine’s Day!  To celebrate the holiday of love, I’ve decided to show my appreciation to my patrons and collectors!  On Valentine’s Day at 3pm, I’ll be choosing a winning participant to receive this original framed oil painting I’ve done.  If you win, wherever you are in the world, I’ll ship it to you…free!

To enter, all you have to do is share this blog post on a form of social media, and comment below on a reason you enjoy my work.  That’s it!  This contest is also being run on my Instagram account, @jessicaliborstudio.  If you win, I’ll message you on February 14 to get your shipping details.  The painting is called “The soft sky and silky river,” and is an oil on canvas, 2.5 by 3.5 inch painting.

It reminds me of one of my favorite vacation times ever, when my family and I went canoeing for the weekend down the NJ rivers.  I saw wildlife, fish, cloud formations, forests, and had the sensation so peaceful of floating on the water just how a bird does.  So remember, just two steps: 1. share a link to this post on social media. 2. Comment below on what you enjoy about my work.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, this look was created by pairing a velvet top with a long pale pink skirt,  and a small simple velvet choker around the neck.   The pictures were taken at the magical, fairyland “fernery” at the Morris Arboredum, a beautiful gem in the suburbs of Philadelphia.   I normally have long hair, but created the bobbed look by curling with hot rollers and using a hair net to create the illusion of shorter hair.

Recently I’ve been getting into vintage styling as a creative outlet, and will also be using this blog as a place to share some favorite looks, as well!  I can’t help but feel that fashion is an extension of art, and the two fields influence each other, and certainly my work.

Good luck with the contest, and Happy Valentine’s!

xo,

Jessica Libor

This November at “The Rock School,” a prominent performing arts school in central Philadelphia, an organization called Young Involved Philadelphia will host its 7th Annual State of Young Philly at annual Civic Engagement Fair.  Attendees  will have the opportunity to meet and greet with dozens of organizations representing the most innovative non-profit, governmental and advocacy groups in Philadelphia. These innovative non profits help to make Philadelphia a better place for all by providing for different unique needs of people groups within the Philadelphia region.
Each participating organization will have representatives present to introduce you to their organization’s mission, tell you about their upcoming events, and recruit new volunteers and committee members.

The Young Involved Philadelphia organization will be partnering with Students Helping Students to collect supplies for local public school. Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation of Dry Erase Markers, White Copy Paper, Notebooks, etc. with them.

The Young Involved Philadelphia group is a nonprofit organization that promotes active citizenship and emerging leadership among young Philadelphians.  YIP strives to:

  • Engage young citizens through opportunities to explore Philadelphia and participate in civic affairs
  • Connect young Philadelphians and local civic groups
  • Represent young people by strengthening channels of communication with the city’s leadership

I have been to this event last year when they hosted it at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and found it stimulating and inspiring to talk to so many people and organizations who are doing good for the city.  The location that they choose for the event it always beautiful and encompasses the arts.  Please consider looking into the Young Involved Philadelphia to see how you can be a voice for your city.  Follow this link to their website to take a look: http://younginvolvedphila.org/

Last evening was First Friday in Philadelphia, and I stopped by an art show curated by Vanessa Werring, who is one of the gallery directors at Gallery 22. I’m super excited to be showing at Gallery 22 this spring! Vanessa does a great job with finding and promoting new talent and I’m honored to be part of the roster this year. Stay tuned for more details soon!
