Just finished up a calming session of candlelit yoga before heading back to the studio.  Art can be so mental; you’re in your head so much thinking of compositions and colors and textures and ideas…once can’t forget you need a body to do the creative work, so yoga breaks are an essential!  That being said, I’ve been working nonstop on a little mini holiday collection!  It’s very inspired by night time and starlight on snow, winter pines and crescent moons.  I will be releasing it on Black Friday with a timed discount to my email subscribers first before releasing it on social media.  If you’d like to get the first look, click here and you’ll be on the list to get the special discount.

The  picture above is what my complimentary gift wrapping looks like for the holidays!  All orders that are handmade will arrive looking similar to this package 🙂  I’m obsessed with these wrappings…silver purples and icy blue satins, and shimmering tulle!

And now a little preview of my handmade ornaments…snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes…silver white winters that melt into springs, these are a few of my favorite things!  The picture above is a sample as well as the video below (it’s fun to see it sparkle!)  It’s been such a delight creating these unique ornaments, each one hand signed and painted by me.  These are part of the Winter Starlight collection!  Join my email list by clicking here to get access when they are released.

More from the Winter Starlight collection.  Original one of a kind handmade paintings with accents of 23 karat gold.  Drops exclusively to my email list on Black Friday with a sweet little deal…click here to be included.

And another gem below, from the Winter Starlight collection…”Blue Pines.”  It was such fun sourcing these vintage frames and dreaming up scenes to fill them with!

This one is under glass, as it’s watercolor and pastel on paper.  The Winter Starlight collection will be released on Black Friday to my email list and 10% of the sales will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the leading research hospitals in developing life saving cures for children with serious diseases.  If you’d like to see the collection when it drops, click here to be included!

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts…” —As You Like It, Act II, Scene VII, by William Shakespeare.

For the last 2 years, I have been privileged to work with some amazing artists in creating beautiful exhibitions hosted by dynamic companies and supporters of the arts.  For this exhibition, The Art of Performance, we have our most dynamic idea yet.  I am thrilled to curate this exhibition and cannot wait to see it come together.

A ballet dancer flits across the stage, while backstage, each performer waits for her cue.  At a theater, the actors run lines in their dressing rooms and prepare their costumes.  A storyteller in Australia passes down the stories of his ancestors around the fire.  On a film set, the directors and crew work together to capture the nuances of the actors’ emotions and create a story.  There is not one of us who has not been touched by the performing arts; whether by being part of it, or enjoying the stories and experiences that they produce.

The Art of Performance is an event that celebrates both the visual arts, and the performing arts.  We will have a curated art exhibition of paintings that relate to the performing arts, and also a special 35 minute performance by actors from the Actor’s Lab drawing from material that deals with themes of visual arts. To find out more about the Actor’s Lab, click here.  In this unique exchange we honor and give vibrance to both art forms.

There will be light refreshments for guests, and the event is free and open to the public!

The Art of Performance art exhibition will be held at the Actor’s Lab at 110 West Lancaster Ave, #150, Wayne, PA 19087 on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 6 to 9pm.  The performance by Actor’s Lab students will begin at 8pm.  For the curated art exhibition, all artwork that deals with the performing arts such as dance, theater, film, spoken word, miming, or more, will be considered.      All work must be in 2 dimensional media, within the dimensions of 30″ in any direction and properly framed or presented.  Entry fee for submitting up to 3 paintings is $20.  Submission of work is not guarantee of showing.

Curator for this exhibition is gallery director (me), Jessica Libor.  Jessica received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Arts in 2014 and has been painting, exhibiting and curating since then.

Happy week of Valentine’s Day!  To celebrate the holiday of love, I’ve decided to show my appreciation to my patrons and collectors!  On Valentine’s Day at 3pm, I’ll be choosing a winning participant to receive this original framed oil painting I’ve done.  If you win, wherever you are in the world, I’ll ship it to you…free!

To enter, all you have to do is share this blog post on a form of social media, and comment below on a reason you enjoy my work.  That’s it!  This contest is also being run on my Instagram account, @jessicaliborstudio.  If you win, I’ll message you on February 14 to get your shipping details.  The painting is called “The soft sky and silky river,” and is an oil on canvas, 2.5 by 3.5 inch painting.

It reminds me of one of my favorite vacation times ever, when my family and I went canoeing for the weekend down the NJ rivers.  I saw wildlife, fish, cloud formations, forests, and had the sensation so peaceful of floating on the water just how a bird does.  So remember, just two steps: 1. share a link to this post on social media. 2. Comment below on what you enjoy about my work.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, this look was created by pairing a velvet top with a long pale pink skirt,  and a small simple velvet choker around the neck.   The pictures were taken at the magical, fairyland “fernery” at the Morris Arboredum, a beautiful gem in the suburbs of Philadelphia.   I normally have long hair, but created the bobbed look by curling with hot rollers and using a hair net to create the illusion of shorter hair.

Recently I’ve been getting into vintage styling as a creative outlet, and will also be using this blog as a place to share some favorite looks, as well!  I can’t help but feel that fashion is an extension of art, and the two fields influence each other, and certainly my work.

Good luck with the contest, and Happy Valentine’s!

xo,

jess-and-lauren-little-with-sunflowers

That’s me with the sunflower on my head with my sister one summer

Once upon a time, in childhood and high school, my days stretched out like weeks and my weeks stretched out like months, and a summer vacation was like a year.  I had endless hours to play with my art and be creative, and time moved slowly in a good way as I discovered the world and my own creativity.  I had little responsibility and that left my mind free as a bird to think, dream, and create.

As an adult, things can get more complicated as you add a day job, taking care of your home, exercising, eating right, making time for friends, family and relationships, paying the bills, not to mention creating art and making time to explore and doodle creatively, which to me is what makes interesting art eventually.  All of this together can be a lot–and at the end of the day, it can be intimidating to sit down and figure out your next great masterpiece.  It’s a lot of pressure!  Not only that, but art takes time, and if you’re already busy sustaining your life, sometimes it can feel like you don’t have the time to make the quality of art you are capable of.

Something that has helped me in particularly busy seasons is the concept of time boxing. Time boxing is the very simple but powerful idea of picking one task, and doing that task with complete focus and attention, for a certain amount of time.  During this set amount of time, you are not allowed to answer the phone, look at your schedule book, do the dishes, text someone, surf the web, look at Facebook, Instagram, fix yourself a sandwich, clean up the room, or do any other interruption.  Your mind is only allowed to focus on that one task.  Here are some examples:

  1. For twenty minutes, sketch out of your imagination in your sketchbook.
  2. For one hour, work on a painting.
  3. For ten minutes, write your artistic career goals and ways to accomplish them
  4. For 30 minutes, take pictures of your recent artwork and upload them to your website.
  5. For 20 minutes, read an inspirational book about an artist or person you admire.
  6. For 20 minutes, take a walk around the block and notice the colors and scenery.

You will be surprised at the amount that you can get done in a short amount of time when you are extremely focused.  The magic in it is that there is a defined time period for the intense focus, which gives your brain a deadline and a goal.  And when it’s done, there’s relief and a sense of accomplishment.  And if you’re an artist at heart, you won’t let a long time pass without having the urge to be creative in some way, even if you’re busy with other things.  As Lera Auerbach says in her book Excess of Being, “True passion does not care for validation.”

This week I’ve been painting away at a new work.  It’s got lush folds and fabrics that are delicious to paint, and some mouth watering fruit that’s nestled in the hand of a figure that’s not seen in the picture.  It’s been fun playing with the different textures and colors in the painting, bringing the fabric, flesh, and fruit to light.  It’s 10×12 inches, oil on board.  No title yet.  Still got a little ways to go on it.
