In learning how to paint, I like to look to those whose work I like, in order to learn how the masters achieved their painting effects. John William Waterhouse is one of my favorites. This painting of his, “The Mystic Wood”, is his last created painting, left unfinished because of his passing. It’s a beautiful example to look at the way he created his paintings, layer upon layer.
